Fledgling by Octavia Butler (Grand Central Publishing, 2005)

“Dominator culture has tried to keep us all afraid, to make us choose safety instead of risk, sameness instead of diversity. Moving through that fear, finding out what connects us, revelling in our differences; this is the process that brings us closer, that gives us a world of shared values, of meaningful community.”

Dont’t take my word for it – here’s what working with me sounds like

Michael has extensive program and process management expertise and this was evident when I got a chance to work him. He has the added practical knoweldge and advantage of having applied those on small to large sized organizations and did not hesitate to share. It was a pleasure to work and interact with Michael during the set up of a large program and I look forward to future collaborations.

I was thankful that Michael also knew how to get different cultures to work together and deliver on time to produce the best results possible. He is a tremendous gamification architect who understands the processes of strategy, implementation and risk management. In essence, I would say that Michael is in the top 1% of his field as a Digital Producer and as a project manager.

Impact

Michael is one of the smartest people I’ve met and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him. His broad experience and knowledge, coupled with his unending pursuit of new learning make him a go-to source for guidance on almost any topic. His specialty is in organizing and developing new processes, using data as a foundation for designing efficiencies, and creating documentation to sustain them. While being a leader, Michael never makes anyone feel inferior. He treats each person, even the newest intern, as an equal – a colleague who wants to get to know you, and engage in an exchange of ideas, not press a one-way flow of information and dictation.

Michael is one of the best managers I’ve had in my professional career. He was clearly interested in helping me grow into a more senior role and pushed me to do it. Every time I ran into a difficult situation he provided help and, even though he was always there and tracking progress, I never felt micro-managed by him. I’ve always believed that the best managers are the ones that people around them better at their jobs, and Michael is one of them. His patience and willingness to help always motivated me to do my best. Even after years of not working together anymore, I’ve always relied on him for advice and mentorship.
